Workshop Descriptions

Alternative Women’s Healthcare
Experienced health care worker Anne Ness discusses how women can take charge of their own health. Topics include: Women’s Self-Health Care – Natural Family Planning and Menstrual Extraction, Self Examination vs. Mammograms, and Nutrition and Health; as well as Alternative Health – Plant Allies and Energy Medicine.

From the Sidelines to the Frontline: Guys Confronting Masculine Violence and Becoming Authentic Allies to Women and Children
This is a facilitated discussion looking at Power, Knowledge and Awareness as Tools to lever against the internalized oppressors that we as men carry inside ourselves. Themes we could explore include a) dismantling sexism and violence through gender specific organizing, b) recognizing critically examining old values and internalizing new ones that work for us and c) How Internalized domination meets Internalized subordination! The discussion will also include devices for breaking the silence around rape and sexual assault. All genders are welcome and encouraged to attend! Hope to see you there!

In Defense of Reproductive Rights: Direct Action Organization
A discussion led by ARA on different tactics we can use to maintain access to our reproductive health.

Sex Toys ("What if we call it, 'Playtime'?")
Join Laura and Laura, home party delegation of the Smitten Kitten, for a fun and informative workshop on sex toys. We will talk about lube and toy basics, anal play, and important facts about toy safety. This is a hands on workshop-come see and feel viborators, butt plugs, dildos and more!

Creating Survivors Support for Victims/Survivors of Sexual Assault
Emily L. will present a discussion and skills assessment/skills share for people interested in becoming effective allies to victims/survivors of sexual assault. We will briefly discuss types of sexual violence, dynamics of sexual assault, resources for survivors, and ways to offer effective support. Time will be short, but we will use the time we have to develop our community knowledge in order to advance our collective resistance to rape culture.

White Privilege
Privileged-Ass White Punks, Listen Up! This workshop is not to blame or shame, but is to work on what it means to us as individuals and as a class of people to be conditioned to carry out a system of brutal inequality. Those of us who are white are agents of racist and genocidal oppression. We benefit from skin privilege every moment of our lives. How do we learn to recognize and counteract this privilege and why? This workshop is open to everyone, but will focus on the detoxification and humanization of whites.

Women's Self Defense Workshop
Come to this two-hour workshop where we will discuss basic safety and general awareness. We will spend the majority of our time learning and practicing basic physical self-defense techniques. Be prepared to sweat and yell! This workshop involves some intense subject matter, but will be fun and exciting. Space is limited, so pregistration is required. Wear comforatble clothes.

DIY Bike Repair
This is a two part workshop for bike enthusiasts of all skill levels. The first half is dedicated to bike basics for beginners: Bike lingo, parts on a bike, how to fix a flat tire, etc. This will be led by the workshop instructors and is an introduction to the basic mechanics of bicycles. In the second half, we will examine more advanced bike mechanics and alterations. This will be primarily led by the requests of the audience, but will cover topics such as major changes, converting to a single speed or fixed gear, and advanced adjusting. This workshop is demo-led; it is not a repair class.

Manifestations of Sexism: Why is there still no equality?
This Workshop will discuss power dynamics within mixed gender groups, the undermining of women's power through cattiness, and how internalized sexism gets in the way of the collective liberation we envision. It is not enough to merely acknowledge the existence of sexism. We must actively confront its latent manifestations of internalized superiority and inferiority. Come with your experiences and ideas so that together we can develop the tools to deconstruct the road blocks we face.

Workshop schedule subject to change and/or additional topics / locations. More info coming soon!
