Hard Times Café (open all night), 1821 Riverside Ave. (612)341-9261. Collectively run coffee shop and restaurant serving vegan and vegetarian food. They have a zine/resource library located in the seating area of the café. You'll get lost in the diverse array of customers and the sea of graffiti covering the bathroom walls. Be sure to try the Seitan Gyro or vegan mac n'cheese!

Pizza Luce (3 locations) downtown at 119 N. 4th St., (612)333-7359; Uptown at 3200 Lyndale Ave. S., (612)827-5978, Seward at 2200 E. Franklin Avenue, (612)332-2535: Minneapolis' long-standing gourmet style pizza shop, serving many vegan and vegetarian options. Both Seward and downtown locations have full bars. Punk friendly, kid friendly, just plain friendly - if you ask nice they'll let all of you play with crayons.

Seward Café (breakfast til 3 pm), 2129 Franklin Ave. E. (612)332-1011: A collectively run café, serving vegan and vegetarian food in their signature way: Write down your order, and pay for it at the counter, and someone screams your name when it's ready for you to pick up. They have a kick-ass outdoor seating area and community garden. Inside they boast an info board and kids' toys. Breakfast and lunch only.

Spokes Pizza (It's the Seward, only at night! Thurs-Sat, til 2 am) A collectively run pizza joint with many vegan and vegetarian options. Free bike delivery! They are run out of the Seward café on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights only.

Triple Rock Social Club 629 Cedar Avenue, (612)332-7399: Minneapolis' local punk bar. Part restaurant, part bar, part show space, the Triple Rock provides drinks, vegan and vegetarian food, all ages and ID shows. Breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Weinery (hot dogs, real & fake) 414 Cedar Avenue S., (612)746-4509: A true greasy spoon that always has great music on the stereo, the Wienery serves up cheap food (including vegan and vegetarian hot dogs!) with a bit of class.

Food Co-ops

North Country Co-op, 1929 South 5th St., (612)338-3110: The Twin Cities' only worker-run food co-op. They have an incredible bulk section, fresh produce, dairy, soy, and a deli with a selection that changes daily.

Seward Community Co-op, 2111 E. Franklin Ave., (612)338-2465: A food co-op with bulk foods, frozen foods, fresh produce, dairy and soy products, and a huge deli with changing selections, sandwiches that are made to order, and a serve-yourself salad bar (you pay by weight).

Other stuff/Cool thing to check out

Amazon Bookstore, 4755 Chicago Ave. S., (612)821-9630: Cooperatively run feminist bookstore. They focus on feminism and women's rights, and have also just recently expanded their children' section.

Arise Resource Center & Book Store, 2441 Lyndale Ave. S., (612)871-7110: The Arise collective has worked hard to make this resource center available for locals and travelers alike. Here you can peruse books on a wide array of topics: Latin American Studies, Irish Studies, Women's Rights, GLBT, Anarchism, current events and more. They also have internet access, a library, host discussions and events, as well as publish a journal. The friendly volunteers are chock full of info to pass along to travelers about the city and local events.

Bat Annex (Behind the Hub Bike Co-op): This space is Minneapolis' newest free skool. They offer weekly classes on a wide array of subjects, and are currently compiling a library. In addition, they offer a typewriter, sewing machine and a place to hang out

Extreme Noise Records, 407 West Lake St., (612)824-0100: A collectively run record store serving the punk community since 1994. They carry a wide selection of vinyl, cds, tapes and videos as well as zines, patches, buttons, studs, spikes, t-shirts and hair dye. This is the place to go for the best selection in the city for local, new, used and rare punk music.

Hub Bike Co-op, 3024 Minnehaha Ave., (612)729-0437: A bike co-op for all your biking needs. They offer assistance with tune-ups, new and used bikes, and tools and accessories.

Mayday Bookstore, 301 Cedar Ave. S., (612)333-4719: A long standing all volunteer, progressive bookstore, these guys have been helping to promote and sell anarchist and leftist literature since 1975.

Profane Existence Collective, PO Box 8722, Minneapolis, MN 55408: A Minneapolis based anarcho-punk magazine, record label and distribution collective who has provided material support for the C.L.I.T. Fest. They do not have a physical location to visit, but will be running a distro / info stall at the fest.
